The most beautiful beaches in Portugal
With nearly 1,700 kilometers of coastline, Portugal has no shortage of beaches to lay your towel on! Its pleasant climate allows you to enjoy the sun and sea all year round. Between wild creeks, seaside resorts and long ribbons of white sand, it is difficult to make a choice. To help you, we have compiled a non-exhaustive list of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal.
Praia de Nazaré
Mostly known for being one of the best surf spots in the world, Nazaré is also home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. Surfers frequent it in winter, and it turns into a real resort during the summer. But despite the influx of travelers, the Praia de Nazaré is never crowded because it stretches for 1.5 kilometers, from the Sitio viewpoint in the north to the fishing port in the south. In between swims, you can admire the pretty multicolored beach huts and the traditional fishermen’s boats.
Praia de Odeceixe
On the border between the Algarve and Alentejo regions lies one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. Here, the Seixe River flows into the Atlantic Ocean, and its last meander bypasses a magnificent tongue of white sand. This spectacular place has all the assets of a postcard: white sand, turquoise waters and steep cliffs that fall into the sea. Don’t miss a stop in the charming village of the same name!
Praia de Pego
Considered one of the most beautiful beaches around Comporta, the Praia de Pego stretches for no less than 4 kilometers. Its fame goes beyond the borders and attracts travelers from all over Europe, who come to relax on the sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. The only restaurant on this beach, Sal, is popular both for the quality of its dishes and for the chic and relaxed atmosphere that prevails.
Praia de Portinho de Arrábida
For a wilderness getaway, set course for this beautiful forest-lined beach. It nestles between lush vegetation and crystal clear waters. For snorkeling enthusiasts, its seabed is home to rich and abundant fauna and flora!
Praia de Comporta
In recent years, the Praia de Comporta has established itself as the place to be in Portugal. In addition to its exceptional location south of the Sado estuary, and its miles of white sand, it is surrounded by extraordinary landscapes. One of the best places for summer holiday or to spend an Autumn in Portugal. Stay in one of the villas of Espirito de Comporta and discover the region between rice fields, cork oak forests and typical restaurants. For an unforgettable sunset, sit back and enjoy a cocktail in a hammock at the Comporta Café, before indulging in a dish of rice with squid ink, the house specialty.
Praia de Carvalhal
Just outside the village of Carvalhal, this is one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. It is reached by a pretty road between pine forests and rice fields that is worth the trip alone. At the end of the road, the Praia do Carvalhal appears behind a barrier of dunes, sheltered from the eyes and from the agitation. Beware, the secret will not remain hidden for long! To eat, sit down on the terrace at O Dinis or Pôr do Sal. Fresh grilled fish, seafood rice or fish soup: the choice is yours!
The list of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal would be too long to list them all here. Among our other favorites, we recommend :
Praia de Tavira
Praia da Marinha
Praia da Falesia
