The Roman ruins

The Roman ruins of Tróia have been classified as a “Monumento Nacional” since 1910. This site, bathed by the ocean, was a large complex for the production of fish cured meats. It was built in the first half of the 1st century. This complex consisted of salting factories, houses, thermal baths, a mausoleum and its necropolis. The 1956 excavations uncovered Roman baths, covering 450 m2. There are hot, temperate and cool water pools, an underground heating system, as well as a swimming pool and a sports hall.

Bird and dolphin watching

Dolphins, of the Corazon Roazes species, have taken up residence at the mouth of the Sado River. About three dozen of these animals live in groups in the Sado estuary between Setúbal, Tróia and Comporta. They were first identified in 1981, and are subject to ongoing monitoring and follow-up. You can easily take a guided sea trip aboard a catamaran to admire these mammals, as well as the many species of birds that inhabit the estuary, an experience not to be missed!

The beaches of Tróia

The huge beaches of the Tróia peninsula are particularly recommended for children. These are the only beaches where there are few waves, which allows the youngest to enjoy the joys of swimming. Plage Atlantica (Soltroia) / Praia Atlântica

Here the sand is golden and the ocean is calm because it is slowed down by the sandbanks that can be seen from the Arrabida mountain. This beach is one of the safest for young children to swim on. The sand is fine and white as far as the eye can see and the water is clear and limpid. Its name comes from the private residence “Soltroia”, not very busy, which must be crossed to access it. Remember to bring your equipment as there is no deckchair or parasol.
